The Confidence I Found from a Posture Corrector Brace

Posture Corrector BraceIn the seventh grade, I was a sloucher. I had it bad. I shuffled down the halls between classes with my shoulders hunched over. In class I slid down low in my seat. I was in bad form. I thought I was like most teenagers, but when my friends started asking me if I was ok I started to worry. Everyone seemed to think I was sad all the time. My teachers constantly asked me to sit up in class, repeating the questions of my friends, “Are you ok?” I didn’t sleep well, and I noticed frequent terrible back pains. I would hobble around the house only to get the Icy Hot and an electric blanket. It was misery.

Naturally, my parents worried about me. They considered taking me to a chiropractor, but the family didn’t have the largest bank account at that time. All the while my back pains continued. One day my dad arrived home and announced that he had purchased a posture corrector brace for me. Instantly, I thought of the unwieldy metal back and leg braces. Particularly, I pictured young Forrest Gump running down his driveway in Greenbow, Alabama, his metal leg braces clanging and bullies throwing rocks at him. I prepared myself for humiliation.

I was pleasantly surprised when my dad opened the package to reveal a cloth posture corrector brace. I was even more elated when I discovered that the posture corrector brace could be worn under my clothing, unseen by the critical eyes of my peers at the middle school. Willing to give anything a shot to get rid of my back pain, I wore the posture corrector brace daily.

Within a week I noticed a significant difference in my back pain, and I felt more energetic and coordinated than ever. The posture corrective brace was easy to wear. It fit comfortably on my back when my spine was in line, and I felt tension whenever I wasn’t sitting or standing correctly. It really worked. My friends noticed too. They complemented me on my sudden change in posture. With my back pain alleviated, I was able to get back to playing football after school. I sat up in class, and I was much more useful around the house.

Over time I wore the brace less and less often. Today, I have great posture thanks to my brace. In a job interview my supervisor commented on my posture. He was impressed with my ability to sit up straight and look him in the eye. My posture is one of the reasons that I landed a wonderful job over many other qualified applicants. In seventh grade, I learned that posture matters. Today, it has paid off, using what people call today a posture corrective brace.

This is a fictional story to show how important posture is.
